Jo and Matt recently renovated their entire house in Haslemere, but now it was time to update their kitchen, utility, and study located at the back of their home. Having replaced the windows and doors in the kitchen during the previous year's renovation, the kitchen itself was looking tired and outdated and needed a complete transformation.
To ensure that the modern kitchen, study and utility rooms had a cohesive look and feel, it was important that they were linked in terms of their style and colour. Jo's vision was a fresh, modern aesthetic that differed from the original wood shaker design.
After considering several options, we decided to go for a handleless design. The island and study cabinets were painted in a complementary, vibrant colour that tied in with the teal colour used elsewhere in the house.
We moved the hob to the island and added an extracting hob to maximise the back wall. Placing the oven housing directly behind the hob in the middle of the tall larder and storage cabinet makes excellent use of space and maximises storage. We added angled cabinets at each end of the sink run to soften the channels into the utility and study. This also softened each end where they are close to the doorways into the hall. The solid oak shelf floats beautifully above the full-height splashback, allowing the room to feel spacious by avoiding wall cabinets in that area.
The utility room was designed with great care to ensure maximum efficiency. By placing the existing fridge and washing appliances at each corner of the room, we created a fully compact storage area, ensuring no space was wasted. All cabinets were custom-made to fit the space perfectly.
Storage was also a priority in the study, but we needed to maintain a spacious and functional layout. We achieved this using a working desk made from the same oak material as the kitchen shelf. The teal colour of the walls contrasted beautifully with the desk, and the accent gold handles used throughout all three rooms provided a cohesive design element.
We introduced Jo to a fantastic local builder who tiled the rooms in a way that seamlessly matched the existing tiles in other parts of the house. This brilliant idea helped bring the whole house together and complete what is a beautiful family home.
