Our clients, Vicky and James, had a very clear vision of how they wanted the kitchen to look in their home in Guildford. The kitchen was to be located in their new extension and it didn’t take long to get the style and layout exactly as they wanted it.
As with all building projects, especially in older houses, we had to foresee any potential structural changes that could affect the final kitchen design. This included awkward soil pipe locations, chimney breast sizes and the ceiling height. This is very common with any renovation project, and one we are very used to working with.
To make the design aesthetic work we wanted to create 3 focal points; the range cooker, the island and the run of tall cabinets. The range cooker had a natural home within the existing chimney. Then, to draw the eye to the island and tall cabinets we added details like skirting around the cabinets and features such as the glazed wall cabinets and chunky posts on the island. This ensures that from any angle the kitchen design appears considered with careful attention given to the details.
We wanted to create a relaxed and sophisticated style and so the use of a neutral but strong colour was important and paired perfectly with a subtle marble veined quartz. The finishing touches of the polished nickel cups and knobs enhance the cabinetry, and the added warmth from the leather stools and wooden chairs create that sophisticated and timeless style.
The finished kitchen is a real credit to Vicky and James' vision - they have married up so many interior design details to create a beautiful space to live and entertain in.
