Shaded White Shaker Kitchen in Godalming

This mid-century house in Godalming had recently been given a new lease of life with a side extension and internal reconfiguration. The result was a generous open plan kitchen living space. We were invited to design and craft the kitchen, laundry room and a bespoke media wall - pieces that would not only fit the space but also feel like they truly belonged.

The kitchen itself is Shaker in style, handmade in our Hampshire joinery in 22mm ash. The main cabinetry was painted in Farrow & Ball’s Shaded White, a timeless neutral that keeps the room light and calm, while the island adds depth in Green Smoke. It’s a simple but striking contrast that makes the island a natural gathering point. Inside the cupboards, we finished the internals in oak, because even the hidden details should bring warmth and pleasure.

A quartz worktop in Cosy Stone Denali runs across the kitchen and up behind the hob as a seamless splashback. Brass handles and shelf brackets from Corston were chosen for their understated elegance, and the under-shelf and under-cabinet lighting creates a soft, welcoming glow in the evenings.

The kitchen is designed to work hard in real life, with a Rangemaster cooker, a Fisher & Paykel fridge/freezer and, in the island, a dedicated wine and beer fridge that makes entertaining effortless. A Quooker tap in patinated brass with CUBE function sits neatly at the sink, offering instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water. Every element is designed to make day-to-day living a little easier, while looking beautiful at the same time.

Just off the kitchen, the new laundry room echoes the design but in Card Room Green, giving it its own softer identity. The client’s Pullymaid drying rack was incorporated here, a practical detail that also feels completely in keeping with the character of the home.

To complete the project, we created a bespoke media wall in the living room, painted in Farrow & Ball’s Light Grey. With open shelving, integrated lighting and space for books, objects and photographs, it frames family life as much as it does the television. By using the same style of joinery here as in the kitchen, the spaces feel connected - the flow is uninterrupted, and the whole home feels aesthetically balanced.

Throughout, the rooms are tied together with Ted Todd Furrow engineered wood flooring, whose warmth and texture ground the whole scheme. What could easily have become a plain modern space instead feels layered, full of character and considered - a beautiful mid-century home shaped by craftsmanship and detail.

At Charter Walk Kitchens, we specialise in designing and handcrafting bespoke kitchens and joinery from our Hampshire workshop. Every piece is made to measure, with a focus on timeless design, quality materials and meticulous detail. We work with clients across Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex, creating kitchens, utility rooms and living spaces that are both beautiful and practical. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation or bespoke joinery project in the South East, we’d love to hear from you.
