Working with Georgea on her latest interiors project was a complete joy. As soon as I entered their home in Passfield, Hampshire it felt very familiar. Their existing kitchen with a large Aga and island I’d seen before, in fact I helped install it in 2001 when the previous owners commissioned Artichoke to design and install their kitchen. I was an apprentice back then, fresh out of university and was very fortunate to work with such a prestigious kitchen design company.
The kitchen was looking remarkably good, but after 5 minutes of speaking with Georgea and listening to her vision I completely understood why she wanted to relocate the kitchen and put her own stamp on what is a beautiful, period home.
Georgea, being an artist, has a very distinct look and style that she wanted us to help create with her. The layout we achieved quite quickly. We started with the Lacanche, which both Georgea and her Husband Jamie wanted to be a main feature - quite rightly too at 1.5m wide! Having positioned this centrally where there was a window, we then positioned the sink centrally on the window that looked up the garden to the pool and centred beautifully with the pitched roof that also continued down the room.
We considered various options of bringing a peninsula into the space but decided it would be better to keep the lines simple and also keep the styling very classic. By using a traditional breakfast table this enhanced the feel, flow and aesthetic of the room much more than island style seating.
For the cabinetry we stuck to simple shaker styling, painted in Raw Linen combined with recessed handles (a first for us here at Charter Walk!) to make this bespoke kitchen classic, timeless, stylish and absolutely beautiful.
We utilised the recess to the right of the fire to house a dresser type of cabinet. To have base cabinets below and a bi-fold dresser above was a key detail, this was a great way to connect the kitchen with the breakfast table and sitting area in front of the roaring fire.
The space at the end of the room Georgea wanted to use for drinks and an extra small kitchen area to prepare food when entertaining. We installed a large Liebherr fridge and freezer in the middle with the freezer to have an ice making function. The sink was to have a boiling water function too with an extra dishwasher and bin for the recycling.
It goes without saying that Georgea's eye for design and her wonderful taste with interiors has made this more than a kitchen. It has fully incorporated it into the living space and made the kitchen furniture part of the home.
