This beautiful handmade kitchen was part of a big project to re-furnish a beautiful period home on the outskirts of Chiddingfold.
The brief was simple; to be sympathetic with the character of the property and at the same time be unique in style and design.
With it being such a large space the layout was a design challenge. We had to link the main cooking area and the sink with a butchers block style centre island table. This is the focal point of the design and key to keeping the style of the room relaxed and informal.
With the space being so unusually large ergonomics were a real challenge. The cooking area is opposite the main window and the sink is under the window with the butchers block island in-between - we overcame this by having a small prep sink next to the EverHot for easy access for draining and filling pans.
The extra ovens are located in the small room to the side of the kitchen which also houses 2 large pantry cabinets and the main large fridge freezer.
The client was keen to experiment with the colours and although the cabinetry was designed in a traditional way with an in-frame construction the colours were to be Farrow & Ball pastel tones with Nimes on the island and Green Blue on the kitchen cabinets and Cooking apple in the utility.
The worktop we used was honed black granite. To continue the birchwood carcass constructed cabinets and dovetail drawer boxes the centre table top is also made from solid birchwood staves.
