Modern Kitchen with Hidden Pantry - Godalming

Amanda and David’s home in Godalming, originally built in the 1970s, offered space and potential but lacked the open, connected layout expected of modern interiors. As part of a substantial rear extension, they set out to create a contemporary kitchen that would become the centre of the house.

The extension introduces space and light. Rooflights draw daylight deep into the room, while expansive sliding doors create a direct relationship between the kitchen and the garden. The result is a modern kitchen space that feels grounded and proportioned rather than over-designed.

At the heart of the room sits a substantial kitchen island. Its scale is deliberate, organising movement around it while providing generous preparation space and informal seating. An undercounter wine fridge is seamlessly integrated, maintaining clean lines across the cabinetry.

The overall palette combines Basalt Grey with Halifax Natural Oak - a pairing that gives this contemporary kitchen in Godalming both depth and warmth. The oak cabinetry runs across the upper level adding texture without visual clutter. Basalt Grey anchors the lower cabinetry and island, bringing balance and definition to the space.

A 1100mm Bertazzoni range cooker forms a confident focal point along the main elevation, framed by veined porcelain and uninterrupted cabinetry. Integrated appliances, including a Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer with ice and water and a Quooker tap, ensure the kitchen performs at the level expected within a high-spec modern interior.

One of the defining features of the design is the concealed walk-in pantry. Hidden behind full-height grey cabinet doors, it opens to reveal extensive shelving, wine storage and additional preparation surfaces. This allows the main kitchen to remain composed and uncluttered, even during everyday family use.

A bespoke bi-fold dresser houses smaller appliances, including the built-in microwave, allowing them to be closed away when not required. Stainless steel bar handles on the pantry and dresser introduce subtle contrast within the otherwise handleless scheme. Under cabinet lighting gives depth and warmth in the evenings.

This contemporary kitchen in Godalming demonstrates how a well-designed extension can completely transform a property. Through careful proportion, material balance and detailed integration, Amanda and David’s modern kitchen now sits confidently at the centre of their home - refined, practical and built for long-term living.

We design and install bespoke contemporary kitchens across Godalming, Surrey and the surrounding villages, creating modern kitchen spaces that are carefully proportioned, beautifully detailed and built to last.

Our work combines precision cabinetry and refined materials to deliver truly luxury kitchens.
