Our clients Adam and Alice recently moved to Chiddingfold into a beautiful character cottage which had a rather tired kitchen which they wanted to update.
They inherited a lovely Aga with their property that they wanted to keep. With this in mind we designed a bespoke shaker kitchen to fit around the Aga and added a small island painted in a contrasting green tone, with space underneath which their new puppy could sleep!
Wall cabinets surround the new canopy extractor above the Aga. For interest to the design and for extra storage we added glass cabinets either side of the window and open shelves to store all their favourite recipe books.
We wanted the tall cabinets to house the appliances but we didn't want them to overpower the design. To soften the end of this run of cabinets we added a rounded base cabinet finished with an oak worktop, this also created the perfect low level put down area. The contrast of the oak created a warmer finish than the stone used for the rest of the kitchen worktops but also helps to tie in the island worktop.
The Bora hob, which we vented straight outside, was a backup for when their Aga was not being used as well as a practical and convenient under counter oven. The Quooker boiling hot water tap was also a new addition to a classic designed kitchen.
As the kitchen is also the main access through to the garden it was important to allow space for the dining table and that we didn’t enclose the space too much for when sat at the table or entering the room from outside.
The bespoke shaker designed cabinets with classic door furniture, oak dovetail drawer boxes and under cabinet LED lighting makes this kitchen a timeless classic and one that will look great and function perfectly for many years to come.
