This Hampshire timber-frame new build was carefully planned around the needs of a busy young family, with light, flow and long term practicality shaping every decision. For Brendon and Hannah Fairclough, the brief was clear: a bespoke kitchen of the highest quality, tailored to their home and robust enough to support everyday family life.
Brendon, known to his followers as Brendog, is a professional mountain biker with World Cup podiums, appearances at events such as Red Bull Rampage, and a strong following through film projects and YouTube. This home offers a quieter counterpoint, designed around family life, routine and time spent together.
The kitchen takes a classic contemporary approach, with bespoke in-frame cabinetry, spray painted in Farrow & Ball Railings and crafted specifically for the proportions of the room. The deep, confident tone brings depth and structure, while subtle detailing - including a stepped recess - introduces interest. Antique brass handles and knobs add warmth and a tactile contrast against the dark cabinetry, reinforcing the quality of the joinery.
Storage has been planned carefully, as you would expect in a made-to-measure kitchen. A generous pantry sits either side of a freestanding American fridge freezer, creating balance and keeping kitchen essentials close to hand. In a family home, this clever storage quietly underpins how the space works day to day.
With natural light prioritised throughout the large open kitchen space, the design was kept deliberately light. In place of wall cabinets, the layout relies on proportion and ergonomics. Tall storage on one wall, a well-considered island and a peninsular allow the kitchen to function fully while maintaining a sense of openness and ease. Using both a peninsular and an island is unusual, but here each serves a distinct role. Together, they establish clear zones for cooking, preparation and seating, allowing the space to adapt throughout the day. A built-in cookbook shelf introduces a lived-in quality, while the woven island stools soften the joinery and bring warmth and texture.
Colour is used to define the wider space, with the dining area colour drenched in a deep charcoal grey, creating separation without disrupting flow. Underfoot, the flagstone floor adds weight and character, grounding the room and giving a sense of permanence.
Appliances are integrated with the same considered approach expected of a luxury bespoke kitchen. A Bora hob on the kitchen island maintains clear sightlines across the room, reinforcing the open feel, while a Quooker hot tap adds everyday convenience.
The result is a kitchen that reflects what Charter Walk is known for: high-end bespoke design, exceptional craftsmanship and kitchens built around the way people really live.
