When artist Georgea Blakey approached us to design a bespoke apothecary room in her home in Passfield, we knew it was a project that would require a delicate balance between functionality and creativity. Having previously completed her kitchen, we were excited to once again collaborate and bring her vision to life.
The challenge lay in transforming a long, narrow space into a multifunctional area that would not only serve as an artist workspace but also cater to the practical needs of the family and guests. With the room doubling up as a kitchenette for the annexe and accommodation downstairs, our design had to seamlessly integrate these different functions.
At the heart of the room was its functionality. It needed to accommodate storing paints, washing brushes, laundering linens, and even bathing the family dog. We incorporated bespoke storage solutions and utility areas, ensuring each task had its designated space without compromising the overall aesthetic.
Drawing inspiration from Georgea's travels around Ireland and America, we opted for traditional oak cabinetry with accents of green and brass, adding warmth and character to the space. These colours and materials were carefully chosen to reflect Georgea's love for art and nature. Central to our design was crafting a unique room that would be a pleasure to spend time in, rather than just a mundane utilitarian space.
The result is an apothecary that not only meets the practical needs of the family but, just like the kitchen next door, also reflects Georgea's creativity and passion for art. Projects like these are where we thrive, where every detail is an opportunity to blend functionality and creativity. Reminding us of the power of design to transform spaces and inspire creativity in the process.
