Handcrafted Arts & Crafts Kitchen - Haslemere, Surrey

On first visiting Nicky & James in their beautiful house, just off Bunch Lane in Haslemere, it was clear that it required a special design to reflect the arts and crafts style of the house and the plans that both Nicky & James had to transform their home.

The location of the kitchen is at the far end of the property, with the living room up a level of stairs. Because of this separation the kitchen really was its own room and had to work socially and functionally.

The brief was stylish, classic and arts and crafts. To meet this brief we needed more space, so we completely re-modelled the layout and removed a walk in pantry wall to increase the footprint of the kitchen. This allowed us to detail the fridge freezer, larder and a TV dresser cabinet to the end of the sink run, with the hob located at the opposite end. The Aga was retained and we used the previous sink position so there was convenient drainage close by when cooking. In effect we introduced 2 cooking zones within one kitchen which has made a huge difference when full family gatherings are happening!

A key part of the design was the introduction of a chefs island table with seating and storage. We love our chefs tables so we jumped at the opportunity to design this piece of furniture and for our cabinet makers to use their expertise and get turning! We used a wood stain to match the floor and made the 2 wall cabinets in the same style so it tied in with the space.

We love this kitchen style and redesigning the layout so the room could be multi-functional was a great challenge which we felt we definitely accomplished.
