Shaded White Cottage Kitchen - Liss Hampshire
Sue and Mark’s cottage kitchen in Liss had served them well, but it was time for a rethink. They didn’t want to knock through walls or expand the footprint - instead, they asked us to reconfigure the space they had, making it more functional, more beautiful, and more in tune with the way they live day to day.
From the outset, we focused on detail. The shaker style cabinetry was designed and crafted in our workshop, built in a classic Shaker style with subtle features that give the room presence. One of the standout elements is the extra-tall fridge/freezer housing, a bespoke design that makes full use of the ceiling height while offering generous, practical storage. Above the hob, we created a tradition mantle that conceals a built-in extractor. On the opposite wall, a larder cupboard was designed with Sue and Mark’s routine in mind, complete with shelving, lighting and a perfectly integrated microwave.
At the centre of the room sits the kitchen island. Sue and Mark’s wanted to reuse their existing oak worktop, so instead of replacing it we restored it. Sanded and re-varnished, it now anchors the kitchen, its warmth contrasting with the new Denali Quartz worktops and matching splashback.
To keep the kitchen feeling calm and elegant, we painted the cabinetry in Farrow & Ball Shaded White, a timeless neutral that has a gentle greyness, while the island was finished in Mouses Back, a quiet grey-brown that gives the room depth. To complete the look, we specified Italian Britannium handles - weighty, tactile, and designed to last.
Behind the calm aesthetic sits functionality. Siemens appliances are integrated throughout, chosen for their reliability and clean lines. Amtico flooring ties the whole scheme together, a surface that is both practical and quietly stylish.
This project is a good example of what we do best: carefully considered design and craftsmanship. Every cabinet was made to measure, every finish chosen for a reason. The result is a kitchen that looks effortless, but works hard - a space that feels as though it has always belonged in Sue and Mark’s home.
