Contemporary Family Kitchen for a Period Home in Busbridge, Surrey

This project in Busbridge, Surrey perfectly demonstrates how contemporary kitchen design can sit beautifully within a period home. Elaine wanted a kitchen that felt calm, uncluttered and practical, while creating a welcoming space for family life. With one daughter still living at home and another nearby with two young children, the kitchen needed to work just as well for everyday living as it did for hosting family gatherings.

The result is a beautifully understated space that feels effortlessly elegant. Finished in an anti-fingerprint matt Beton colour, the cabinetry has a soft, warm tone that gives the kitchen a modern aesthetic without appearing cold. To bring contrast and texture into the design, we paired it with oak-effect carcasses and a bespoke oak-effect dresser, creating the perfect balance between contemporary simplicity and natural character.

One of the standout features of this design is the illuminated dresser cabinet. Fitted with PIR sensor lighting, it automatically lights up as the doors open, showcasing glassware while adding a warm glow to the dining space. It's a simple detail that makes a real difference, turning practical storage into a beautiful focal point.

Every element of the kitchen was carefully considered to make everyday life easier. Wide pan drawers maximise storage while keeping everything easily accessible, integrated internal bins help keep worktops clutter-free, and a Siemens venting hob removes the need for an overhead extractor, allowing uninterrupted sightlines across the room. An integrated Siemens larder fridge completes the appliance package, maintaining the seamless look of the cabinetry.

The crisp 20mm Denali worktops complement the muted cabinetry perfectly, creating a bright, fresh workspace that is both durable and timeless. Together with the soft colour palette, they help the room feel light, spacious and incredibly calming.

The project didn't stop with the kitchen. We also designed replacement hallway cabinetry to introduce smart, built-in storage that feels completely at home within the property, along with a new utility room finished in Agave Green with matching oak-effect interiors. While the utility introduces a subtle pop of colour, it still feels connected to the kitchen through the consistent materials and attention to detail.
