Some of our most rewarding projects at Charter Walk are those that evolve over time. When clients return to us again and again, it allows us to develop a real understanding of how they live and how their home should feel.
This beautiful bespoke dressing room in Witley is the fourth phase of work we have completed for James and Kelly, having previously designed and installed their kitchen, boot room and living room. With each stage, the design of their home has developed thoughtfully, each new space building naturally on the last.
For this latest project, the couple extended above the garage and beyond, creating a carport area below while unlocking the space needed upstairs to create an exceptional dressing room for Kelly. The result is a calm, elegant space that feels both luxurious and personal.
While the cabinetry elsewhere in the house follows a more classic shaker aesthetic, this room called for something softer and more refined. The brief was to create a dressing room with a distinctly feminine feel, while still maintaining the timeless quality that runs throughout the rest of the home.
To achieve this, we designed an arched shaker-style cabinet front with a slim door frame. The subtle curve softens the cabinetry and gives the wardrobes a lighter, more elegant appearance, bringing a delicate feel to the space without losing the craftsmanship and quality that define the rest of the house.
Small details were carefully considered throughout the design. The glass knobs were chosen to complement the chandelier above, allowing light to catch and reflect across the room and adding a quiet sense of glamour. Lighting itself played a particularly important role. Display areas were backlit to showcase Kelly’s handbag collection, turning practical storage into a feature within the room. Inside the open display cabinets, a striped wallpaper was used to create contrast against the interiors and add depth.
At the centre of the room sits a large bespoke storage island, designed to keep everyday items easily accessible while maintaining the calm symmetry of the room. The island offers generous drawer storage while still allowing the space to feel open and relaxed. Alongside it sits Kelly’s own buttoned ottoman, which adds softness and comfort and helps the room feel less like a wardrobe and more like a private suite.
Beyond storage, the room was designed to be somewhere Kelly could enjoy the process of getting ready. A dedicated dressing area includes a tall-boy dressing table, where the drawers have been carefully organised with dedicated spaces for hair appliances, complete with integrated plug sockets to keep everything neatly stored but easily accessible.
Above the dressing table, an angled mirror helps reflect light throughout the room while creating the perfect setting for everyday use. A sofa and television area nearby provides a more relaxed space within the room, allowing it to function as more than simply storage.
The finished dressing room feels calm, elegant and beautifully tailored to the way James and Kelly live. Working with the same clients across multiple phases of their home has allowed us to ensure that each new space feels connected, while still bringing its own character.
