Our clients in Godalming were keen to transform their kitchen into a contemporary, clean and modern space and at the same time update their appliances to reflect modern life.
For this bespoke design we chose light grey cabinetry which contrasts perfectly with the charcoal island - it is a stunning combination and coupled with the quartz worktop makes for a very crisp look.
It was important given the shape of the room that we maintained symmetry. We did this by ensuring that the cabinets on the sink run balanced nicely at base level. As every kitchen we design is bespoke we can make cabinets any width, this for this contemporary kitchen it meant we were able to create the symmetry and balance required.
With the window and sink being central on the wall, the cabinets either side were important. We were keen to avoid harsh, square ends so we introduced a subtle, soft, curved end to the wall cabinets. We then reflected this for the base cabinets on the island too. This really softened the clean, straight lines of the room and added a different feel compared to an 'off the shelf' handleless kitchen.
By extending the wall cabinet doors past the bottom of the cabinet this allowed us to hide the lighting and for the doors to be easily opened from the back. This detail also hides the underside of the wall cabinets so you cannot see the joins and the service gap behind for air flow.
We continued the style of cabinets into the utility but used a laminate door as opposed to an anti-fingerprint paint finish that we used on the kitchen.
With adding in the clients own colourful lighting we think this kitchen is a perfect example of German design at its finest and will remain timeless for years to come.
