Our clients bought this beautiful cottage in central Haslemere last year. It needed a complete renovation with new plumbing, electrics, heating and flooring.
To be sympathetic with the age and period of the cottage, they carefully put back a lot of the character by using similar materials to what was used originally. With the low ceilings and original beams every bit of space had to be considered - the end result is fantastic.
It was very important the kitchen design maximised the space and created plenty of storage as well as fitting in all the main appliances. With painted white floorboards creating a light floor we were able to go dark and rich with the cabinets, we added a stunning marble worktop which really enhanced the look and feel of the space.
The brass and gold fittings in the kitchen and unlacquered brass handles and cups combined with the marble worktop really compliments all the other touches in the room. One of the main visual highlights of this space is the marble shelf over the sink, with the addition of our clients objet d'art it really draws the eye and makes the perfect feature in this character cottage.
The EverHot sits beautifully in the original fireplace with the island providing immediate put down and prep space when cooking along with plenty of drawer storage.
Like a lot of kitchens in period properties there was an original separate pantry and our clients managed to ensure her cottage was no different when they re-configured the space on the ground floor. By having a separate pantry it meant that all the dry food as well as other essential kitchen items could be stored away from the main kitchen but remain easily accessible.
Dark, rich tones for the cabinetry complemented by gold and marble makes this kitchen palette totally timeless and very indulgent without the expense of in-frame cabinetry and dovetail drawer boxes. It looks great and maximises every bit of storage space, which is essential in a smaller cottage that is packed to the rafters in character and good style and taste!
